Since Palestine does not officially exist, artist Khaled Jarrar has created a fake passport stamp, dignifying the people sequestered inside Israeli military controlled borders. He’s stamped 40 passports so far, but CNN International reports that many Palestinians are hesitant to participate for fears of being harassed by Israeli authorities.
The symbolic stamp created for this art project depicts the Palestine Sunbird, flowers and encircled words “State of Palestine” in English and Arabic.
This week, Jarrar took his project to the streets of Jerusalem. Palestinians will take be asking the United Nations for statehood this September.
